Pete Brown: ‘the beer drinkers’ Bill Bryson’
Date: Friday 9th June 2023
Venue: Montgomery Town Hall
Time: 6.00pm-6.45pm
Tickets: £8.00
We can think of no better way to open Monty Lit Fest 2023 than in the company of “the beer drinkers’ Bill Bryson”, Pete Brown.
Join us for a pint and the chance to hear Pete talk about a career spent studying, sampling and writing about food and drink, especially what he calls “the fun parts” like beer, pubs, cider, bacon rolls and fish and chips.
This will be a very special Friday night down the pub as Pete marks the 20th anniversary of the publication of his first book, Man Walks into a Pub, sharing tales of twenty years as a travelling beer writer. He’ll also lead us in some tutored beer tasting and tell us about his latest book, Clubland, an intoxicating history of working men’s clubs.
Pete Brown is an author, broadcaster and beer lover. Across twelve books, his broad, fresh approach takes in social history, cultural commentary, travel writing, personal discovery and natural history. He writes for newspapers and magazines around the world and is a regular contributor to radio and podcasts. He was named British Beer Writer of the Year in 2009, 2012, 2016 and 2021, has won three Fortnum & Mason Food and Drink Awards, been shortlisted twice for the Andre Simon Awards, and in 2020 was named an “Industry Legend” at the Imbibe Hospitality Awards.
