The Friendly Festival is back

It’s all systems go for Monty Lit Fest 2023, which will take place in the historic town of Montgomery over the weekend of 9th – 11th June.

We’ll once again be showcasing a range of top literary talent with a programme that has something for everyone.

So start planning your weekend now!

  • Will you want to meet bestselling fiction authors Clare Mackintosh, Lissa Evans, Annie Garthwaite and Alis Hawkins?
  • Or join Frieda Hughes or Mike Parker as they tell us about their brand new books?
  • Might you want to debate the future of farming and rural communities with authors Anna Jones, Rebecca Smith and David Elias or re-think what we know about our Neanderthal ancestors with archaeologist, Rebecca Wragg Sykes.
  • How about meeting Welsh rugby legend, Nigel Owens, as he talks about his autobiography, The Final Whistle.
  • Thinking about exploring the history of a Marches house with Gavin Plumley or meeting Ed Brooke-Hitching, author of The Phantom Atlas?
  • Are you an aspiring writer keen to attend this year’s writers’ workshop?
  • Or perhaps you’ll just want to enjoy a pint with “the beer drinkers’ Bill Bryson”, Pete Brown; kick back at our Late Lounge or exercise your grey cells at our Big Quiz Night.

Make a day or weekend of it with a poetry-themed art exhibition, buskers and musical groups, coffee and cake (back by popular demand), street food vans and everything else that Montgomery has to offer

Festival goers will also be able to browse two Festival bookshops, with Oswestry’s Booka Books in Montgomery Town Hall and The Montgomery Bookshop just down the road. Authors will be happy to meet their readers and sign copies of their books.
