It’s here! Monty Lit Fest 2026

Monty Lit Fest 2026 takes place this weekend, 12th-14th June, in the beautiful town of Montgomery.

We’re all set for a weekend of books and fun. It’s the chance to meet and hear from authors about their work; have a go yourself at our writers’ workshops; join us for our Saturday night quiz or a Friday night pint in the company of Jeb Loy Nichols and inspire the next generation at our Monty Mini Fest.

There’s still time to plan your weekend – but hurry: tickets are selling fast and we’ve already sold out for our weekend finale with Zandra Rhodes and Andrew Logan.  Take a look at our programme here

So, what will you choose? As always, we have something for everyone:

  • Get back to the land with our sessions on farming and nature with Minette Batters; BBC Countryfile’s Tom Heap; hedgelayer Richard Negus; Festival favourite, Carwyn Graves – and more!
  • If fiction is your bag, come along to hear from crime and thriller superstar, Sophie Hannah and master of the short form, Cynan Jones. Or make a Sunday morning of it with Elizabeth O’Connor, Sian Hughes and our very own Myfanwy Alexander
  • Take a trip along the Hafren (River Severn) with Sarah Chave and hear from the team that brings us ITV’s Vanished Wales
  • Kick back at our Late Lounge with our resident host, Rhys Mwyn, this year in conversation with Manic Street Preachers biographer, Keith Cameron – followed by a FREE concert with Jeb Loy Nichols
  • Hear from royal insider, Paul Burrell, who will be sharing his own stories as well as his insights into the workings of the British monarchy
  • Have a go yourself at our two writers’ workshops, exploring the art of the short story with Cynan Jones and writing memoir with Iola Ynyr
  • Find out why Alex Johnson decided to read a book by a Welsh author every week for a year -in conversation with Mike Parker
  • Join Jay Griffiths as she explains why being with animals is so good for us
  • Pit your wits against quizmaster Marcus Berkmann at that Saturday night quiz
  • And bring your kids or grandkids along to our second Jill Kibble Monty Mini Fest for stories and fun with some brilliant storytellers and authors, a pop-up bookshop – and cake and giveaways!

And while you’re with us, make sure you visit our art exhibition, listen to some music and readings and enjoy the food and drink that will be on offer all weekend.

Welcome to Monty Lit Fest 2026.

Tickets for all sessions are available online (Mini Fest here) or in person from The Montgomery Bookshop or Ivy House Café in Montgomery and, over the weekend itself, at the Festival’s ticket desk in Montgomery Town Hall.
