Monty Volunteers – how it happens!

Monty Lit Fest is nothing without its volunteers.  Visiting writers have remarked, more than once, that they can’t believe that we rely totally on people giving their time for nothing.

Of course, it’s not really for nothing as the pleasure we get from pulling this amazing event together has a value all of its own.  And the opportunities to take part are many!

Yes, we need stewards at each session and someone on the ticket desk.  But it also means deciding the programme, liaising with some pretty important writers and their “people”, working with the organisers of the local community events which enhance the whole Lit Fest experience.  It means web maintenance, content creation, designing the website, print and promo material.  Posting on the socials, distributing leaflets and posters, finding audiences and media interest.  Selling tickets, attracting sponsors, sorting accommodation and hospitality, dressing the stage, fundraising, as well as the very necessary accounting for finances and ensuring legal compliance.  Oh and the cakes.  Making the famous cakes.

Montgomeryshire has a long-standing record of volunteers ready to participate in creating events that everyone can enjoy and own with pride.  Montgomery town itself is never still.  Volunteering for Monty Lit Fest can be a whole new social life!

Here’s what Peter McCartney, our latest committee member, has to say

“A newcomer to both the area and the festival… but what a welcoming experience I had in 2025 as a volunteer helper on festival weekend. The brief was to help our event attendees have a fantastic visitor experience, providing a welcoming environment, information and general good cheer in support of the nicely varied event programme.

I got involved in activities large and small, saw behind the scenes, meet book loving people and consumed a nice amount of coffee & cake!
