Writing The Past with Hope Adams, Lissa Evans and Alix Nathan
Why do we find fiction based on real or imagined historical events so compelling? And why has it undergone something of a renaissance in recent years, with historically-based novels leading the charge in the best-seller lists and award shortlists alike? In this session, chair Myfanwy Alexander, explores the reasons why this genre is so buoyant with three novelists who have chosen historical events and themes for their writing in recent years: Hope Adams, author of Dangerous Women, Lissa Evans, author of Crooked Heart, Old Baggage, and V for Victory, and Alix Nathan, author of The Warlow Experiment and the forthcoming Sea Change.
