What does the natural world mean to us, and what are the various ways we approach it? Do we all have equal access, or seek the same experiences? In Birdsplaining<\/em>, a\u00a0lyrical, sometimes provocative collection of essays, Jasmine Donahaye asks searching questions about our relationship to the natural world and to one another.\u00a0<\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
In conversation with Gwen Davies, Editor of N<\/em>ew Welsh Review<\/em>, she will be discussing the exploration of ideas through birds and personal experience, along with wider questions about the nature of nature writing.<\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
Roaming across Wales, Scotland, California and the Middle East, Jasmine unapologetically challenges familiar ways of seeing the natural world, looking to understand things on her own terms and undoing old lessons about how to behave.<\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>

\u00a0Jasmine Donahaye\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0latest book is\u00a0Birdsplaining: A Natural History.\u00a0<\/em>Her previous books include\u00a0Losing Israel<\/em>\u00a0(2015),\u00a0The Greatest Need<\/em>\u00a0(2015),\u00a0Whose People? Wales, Israel, Palestine<\/em>\u00a0(2012), and two collections of poetry:\u00a0Misappropriations<\/em>\u00a0(2006) and\u00a0Self-Portrait as Ruth<\/em>\u00a0(2009).\u00a0She teaches part-time\u00a0at Swansea University, and is a fellow of the Learned Society of Wales. She won the New Welsh Writing Awards in 2021 with an extract from\u00a0Birdsplaining: A Natural History<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>

Gwen Davies<\/strong>\u00a0is the editor of\u00a0New Welsh Review<\/em>. She has worked as a creative editor at publishers including Parthian, and founded the imprints Alcemi and New Welsh Rarebyte. She is also a writers\u2019 mentor for Literature Wales and a judge of the New Welsh Writing Awards. As a literary translator, her titles include Robin Llywelyn\u2019s\u00a0White Star<\/em>\u00a0(Seren Wen ar Gefndir Gwyn<\/em>) and two of bestseller Caryl Lewis\u2019 novels,\u00a0Martha, Jack and Shanco<\/em>\u00a0(Martha, Jac a Sianco<\/em>) and\u00a0The Jeweller<\/em>\u00a0(Y Gemydd<\/em>). She grew up in a Welsh-speaking family in West Yorkshire and now lives in Aberystwyth with her family.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
