Heavy Light with Horatio Clare
Date: Sunday, 12th June 2022
Venue: Montgomery Town Hall
Time: 11.00-11.45 am
Now we understand that wellbeing and mental health are parts of every life, what do we know about trauma, breakdown, treatment and healing? Can we talk and write about them in ways that are helpful, revealing, rewarding, uplifting, even funny?
Horatio Clare had a breakdown in 2018. His book, Heavy Light, tells the story of what happens when we fall apart, how we are treated and how we might be healed. Paying tribute to extraordinary people, we’ll hear from Horatio his thoughts on what we know about mental health, and what we do about it.
Horatio Clare’s first book, Running for the Hills, an acclaimed account of a Welsh childhood, won a Somerset Maugham Award and was longlisted for the Guardian First Book Award. His subsequent books include Down to the Sea in Ships (winner of the Dolman Travel Book of the Year), Icebreaker: A Voyage Far North¸ The Light in the Dark: A Winter Journal and, most recently, Heavy Light. His essays and reviews appear regularly in the national press and on BBC radio.
