In conversation with Mike Parker
Date: Sunday, 12th June 2022
Venue: Montgomery Town Hall
Meet local author, Mike Parker, and hear about his long and varied writing career based on a strong and enduring sense of place – whether through his guidebook writing or narrative non-fiction like his 2019 book, On the Red Hill, which has struck such a chord with readers.
As an Englishman settled in an old farmhouse in the mwynder Maldwyn (‘the mellowness of Montgomeryshire’), we also find out why being “half and half” is such a privilege for a writer and why he considers himself to be Cymro o ddewis – a Welshman by choice.
Mike Parker is the bestselling author of On the Red Hill, a Wales Book of the Year and Highly Commended for the Wainwright Prize for Nature Writing in 2020, as well other books including Map Addict, The Wild Rover, and Mapping the Roads. He was also the co-author of the first five editions of the Rough Guide to Wales. He has written and presented several series of travelogues for ITV Wales, has worked on numerous other TV and radio programmes, and occasionally performs as a stand-up comedian and actor. Born and bred in the Midlands, Mike now lives near Machynlleth.
